Modifying a Template

This procedure applies ONLY to the estate-planning products.

Step 1: Open the Template and save it under a new name (select Save as Template on the File menu).

Step 2: Select Template Assistant at Question 1 (Which Activity) and then select Browse the Navigator at the Template Assistant question.  [This will suppress question suppression and make it easier to go to the questions you wish to modify using the Navigator.]

Step 3: Make whatever changes you want to the answer file by using the Navigator to locate the answers want to change. Important: Do not use Continue (or Review) after changing an answer. If you want to change more than one answer do so by clicking on the next question in the Navigator.

Note: If you inadvertently click Continue and are presented with a question that you do not want answered in your template:

a. Flag the answer by clicking the Flag icon.

b. Select Clear Multiple on the Answers menu and make sure the Flagged Answers checkbox is checked (uncheck any other boxes). Click OK.

Step 4: Select Save as Template on the File menu and again save your Template under its new name. You might want to enter a description in the Description box. (When subsequently selecting a template to open at the Select Title/File screen, click the Description button and you or your colleagues can read this description to determine whether this is the right template to open.)

Step 5 (optional): It is recommended that you mark your template ‘Read-only’ to avoid overwriting it in the future. To do this open Windows Explorer (or My Computer). Browse to the folder that corresponds to the title that you own. All title folders are located in the ‘Lawgic’ folder.  For instance, the Florida Wills & Trusts folder is “fl_wt” and is located in: C:\Program Files\Lawgic\fl_wt. All templates have a .xmp file extension. To mark a template Read-only, highlight the file, right-mouse click and select Properties. Click the Read-only box and click OK.
